Historical Note
The International Association of Theatre for Children and Young People's United States Center (ASSITEJ/USA) was founded in 1965 with a mission to develop professional theatre for young audiences and to participate in international exchange. It fulfills this mission by providing a national network for exchange and dialogue among professional theatres, promoting artistic excellence, advocating for national awareness of live theatre's impact on children and families, and cultivating diversity, equity, and inclusion in the field. The organization's name was changed to Theatre for Young Audiences/USA (TYA/USA) in 2007 and by 2020, it represented 900 member theatres, organizations, and individual artists in 42 states.
