Historical Note

William Boyce Thompson purchased the Silver Queen Mine (located near Superior, Arizona) and founded the Magma Copper Company in 1910. The mine converted production from silver to copper and explored and developed a number of high-grade copper veins. By the end of World War I, the company's mine was one of Arizona's greatest bonanza mines. The mine was closed in 1971.
