The Daniel Ellis Conner Papers are comprised of the original Conner manuscript and correspondence regarding its purchase by Arizona State University. The Conner Manuscript is an undated holograph account of Conner's experiences prospecting in the west and travelling with the Walker Party in Arizona in the mid-nineteenth century.

Biographical Note
Daniel Ellis Conner, prospector and civil engineer, was born on December 24, 1837 at Bardstown, Kentucky. He attended Hanover College in Kentucky from 1856 to 1858 and then relocated to Ridgeley, Missouri where he lived with relatives and sought employment as a civil engineer. From 1859 to 1861 Conner prospected in the gold fields of Colorado and in the fall of 1862 he joined the Walker Party in a mining exploration expedition in Arizona and New Mexico.
In later years Conner worked in civil engineering in his hometown of Bardstown, in Cincinnati, Ohio and in Wilmington and Riverside, California. He died at the Riverside County Hospital on June 19, 1920.
