Scope and Content Note
Series I: Unclassified Materials houses items that were not sorted into series when the collection was inventoried. The vast majority of the materials document Stump's service in the U.S. House of Representatives between 1977 and 2002. Items in the remaining series show Stump's work on specific committees and positions on various measures in the 102nd through the 105th Congresses (1991-1998).

Biographical Note
Robert Lee Stump was born to Jesse Patrick and Floy B. (Fields) Stump in Phoenix, Arizona on April 4, 1927. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1946 and graduated from Tolleson High School in 1947. He went on to earn his B.S. at Arizona State University in 1951. Stump farmed before being elected to the Arizona State House of Representatives in 1959. He served in this capacity until 1967, when he was elected to the Arizona State Senate. In 1977, Stump was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives as a Democrat. He was reelected to the two succeeding Congresses before being reelected as a Republican to the 98th Congress in 1983. During his time in the House, Stump chaired the Committee on Veterans' Affairs (104th-106th Congresses) and the Committee on Armed Services (107th Congress). He did not run for reelection to the 108th Congress in 2002. Bob Stump died on June 20, 2003 in Phoenix, Arizona and is buried in Greenwood Memorial Cemetery.
