Preliminary Inventory of the American Indian Movement of Arizona Records
This collection houses correspondence, photographs, newspaper clippings, video tapes, and other materials documenting the American Indian Movement in Arizona, the controversy surrounding Leonard Peltier, legal issues involving Native Americans in Arizona, and Vernon and Samantha Foster's pottery. This collection has not been processed in full and can be viewed only by appointment. Contact Archives and Special Collections for more information.
Cultural Policies and Guidelines Collection
The Cultural Policies and Guidelines Collection contains print and web published tribal language policies; state and tribal resolutions on language education; and guidelines for education and cultural heritage and recognition. The collection spans 1998–2003 and includes Alaska, Arizona, Montana and Hawaii.
Thomas H. Dodge Collection
The Thomas H. Dodge Collection houses correspondence, reports, tribal council minutes and other administrative documentation, newsclippings, and miscellaneous notes. The bulk of the collection documents Dodge's work as Navajo Tribal Council Chairman and Superintendent of the Navajo, San Carlos, Osage, and Truxton Canon Agencies from 1930 to 1960.
Inter Tribal Council of Arizona Records
The Inter Tribal Council of Arizona Records contain meeting minutes, progress reports, resolutions, letters, and speeches from the Commission of Indian Affairs and Governor's Documents showing the Council's work toward unifying various American Indian tribes in Arizona in order to raise concerns and address issues that impact all American Indians in the state.
Carlos Montezuma Collection
The Carlos Montezuma Collection houses correspondence, speeches, printed materials, and financial records documenting the life of an urban physician and Indian rights activist. Although the collection extends from 1887 to 1980, the bulk of the collection concerns Montezuma's activism from 1877 to 1922.
Tribal Language Policies Collection
The Tribal Language Policies Collection contains print and web published tribal council resolutions; policies on tribal language use and education; and primary-school language policies. The collection spans 1984-2001. Tribal language policies include Rosebud Sioux Tribe, Ute, Hualapai, Oneida, Salt River Pima-Maricopa, Tohono O'odham, Hawaiian, Navajo, Hopi, Arapaho, and Pascua Yaqui.
