Scope and Content Note
This collection consists primarily of correspondence between E. H. McHenry and the officials and employees of the machinery manufacturing companies that designed, constructed, and tested his solar motors. Also included are engineering tables, notes, diagrams, blueprints of solar motors, notes for a public address on solar motors, and clippings and advertisements for boilers, radiators, pumps, and generators. This collection has not been processed in full and can be viewed only by appointment. Contact Archives and Special Collections for more information.

Biographical Note
Edwin Harrison McHenry was born on January 25, 1859 in Cincinnati, Ohio. He worked as Chief Engineer for the Northern Pacific Railway until 1901, when he went to China as an engineering advisor to the government. Returning home in 1902, McHenry went to work for the Canadian Pacific Railway. He became vice president of the New York, New Haven, & Hartford Railroad, the Boston & Maine Railroad, and the Maine Railroad in 1904. While serving in this capacity, McHenry supervised the lines' electrification. He left this post in 1914 and founded a consulting firm named McHenry & Murray. McHenry retired in 1916 and died of a cerebral hemorrhage in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on August 21, 1931.
