The Rosemary Apple Blossom Lonewolf Papers contain manuscripts, correspondence, photographs, CDs and VHS cassettes. The collection includes personal papers; professional papers; articles; personal and professional photos of the Lonewolf and Tafoya families; and copies of Lonewolf’s projects, awards and recognitions. The bulk of the collection spans from the mid-1980s to 2005. Lonewolf’s personal papers span 1953 to 2008. Family photos span 1911 to 2008. Articles, journals, announcements and newspaper clippings span 1971 to 2008.

Series I: Professional Papers contains the artist’s curriculum vitae, artist’s profile, and professional correspondence relating to appearances at public engagements, projects and exhibits. Items include a promotional brochure regarding Apple Blossom Accents, Lonewolf’s business entity in Espanola, NM and information on specific projects including a logo design, consultation to the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian, her term as Artist in Residence at Harvard University and others. Items span 1973 to 2007.

Series II: Articles, Announcements and Programs contains news clippings, journal articles, event announcements, invitations and printed event programs spanning 1973 to 2005. Items cover individual and group art shows, gallery openings, special appearances and awards presented to the artist. Items regarding Joseph Lonewolf, Theresa Lonewolf, Grace Medicine Flower, Paul Speckled Rock, Mike Romero, Camilio Sunfower Tafoya and other artists working in collaboration with Rosemary Lonewolf are also present.

Series III: Scrapbooks contains contents of a scrapbook; miscellaneous items included but not attached the to scrapbook pages; a photocopy of the complete scrapbook; an intact pottery portfolio scrapbook; report cards and wedding announcements. The scrapbook spans 1972 to 1979 and includes photographs of Rosemary Lonewolf, her family and her pottery; newspaper clippings regarding the artist’s awards; award ribbons and letters of appreciation.

Series VI: Photographs contains color and black and white photographs of personal and professional events. Photographs include candid shots, professional studio photos, art projects in progress, and completed pottery and projects. Included in these photos are the New Mexico Governor’s Gallery Opening, an Arizona Humanities Council Lecture, the Espanola, New Mexico Art Festival, and the Wheelright Museum. Family photos include the artist, Joseph Lonewolf, Grace Medicine Flower, Geronimo and Sarafina Tafoya, Paul Speckled Rock, Adam Speckled Rock, and extended family members.

Series V: Artifacts and Memorabilia contains ceramic tiles from Apple Blossom Accents, ribbons awarded to Lonewolf, and a glass plaque awarded to Lonewolf.

Series VI: Audio and Visual contains CDs and VHS cassettes. The CDs contain photos of projects in progress and upon completion, news coverage video of a completed project, photos of special events, and personal photos. VHS cassettes are of the Indigenous Evolution project in collaboration with Tony Jojola.

Appointments in the Wurzburger Reading Room at Hayden Library (rm. 138) on the Tempe campus are available Monday through Friday. Rosemary Apple Blossom Lonewolf (b. Dec. 7, 1953) is an award winning artist from Santa Clara Pueblo, NM. She is the daughter of Joseph Lonewolf and Theresa Lonewolf, niece of Grace Medicine Flower and granddaughter of Camilio Sunflower Tafoya, all renowned artists. She attended St. Mary’s High School in Colorado Springs, CO, Fort Lewis College in Durango, CO and Arizona State University in Tempe, AZ. In February 1972 she married Paul Speckled Rock, son of New Mexico Governor Paul Tafoya, in Espanola, NM. Their son, Adam Speckled Rock, was born in November 1972. In 1990 Lonewolf married Louis Baca, an engineer, in Lhasa, Tibet where she traveled to present at the Sino-American Conference on Women’s Issues.

Lonewolf has over thirty years experience in pottery art using the sgraffito etching method. She began her craft in 1972 with the encouragement of her family and under the training of her father, who also uses the sgraffito method. Since she began her career as an artist Lonewolf has been awarded in both Native American and in non-Native art exhibits. She has served on the Wheelwright Museum of the American Indian board of directors, received numerous fellowships and commissions, has presented nationally and internationally, and continues to work in her craft and teaching.

Her work has been featured in the National Museum of American History Smithsonian Institution, the Heard Museum, and the New Mexico Museum of Indian Arts and Culture amongst others. She was recognized by Arizona Commission on the Arts and was Artist-in-Residence at Harvard University. In Arizona, Lonewolf designed the Isaac Pedestrian Bridge over McDowell Road at 35th Avenue in Phoenix and the pedestrian-bicycle Basket Bridge over Euclid Road at Broadway Boulevard in Tucson.
