Biographical Note

Francisco Rivera Fontes was born to Francisco and Casilda Rivera de Fontes (d. 1936) in Mexico on December 3, 1887. He was one of at least six children, including Timoteo Rivera (1895-1980), Tomas Rivera (1897-1990), Policarpo (1903-), Alberto (ca. 1903-1904), and Manuel. Francisco Fontes married Eduvijes Diaz (1898-1983), daughter of Rita Fimbres de Diaz, in September of 1918 and the couple had sixteen children: Leonardo Diaz (1919-1999), Florentino Diaz Tino (1920-2012), Francisco Diaz (1921-2010), Maria de la Luz (Fontes) Ashford (1922-2008), Policarpo Alberto (1924-1924), Alberto (1925-1994), Jose Mario (1928-2009), Juan Pedro (ca. 1929-ca. 1930), Victor Manuel (1930-1967), Alvaro Pedro (1931-2004), Luis D. (1933-), Lorenzo (1934-), Maria Casilda (Fontes) Elias (1936-), Laura Artemisa (1937-), Armando Diaz (1939-2004), and Antonio (1942-). Fransisco and Eduvijes Fontes emigrated to the United States with their four oldest children in about 1923 and settled in Ray, Arizona. They relocated to Tucson in about 1926. Fransisco Fontes worked as a carpenter (1925-1934), a car operator (1937-), and occasionally a laborer. Fontes died on May 13, 1984.
