Atanacio Miguel Hernandez was born to Teodore and Tercilia Hernandez in Guanajuato, Mexico in 1875. He married Adriana Muñoz and the couple had three children, Teodoro (1900-1954), Salvador (1901-1902), and Augustín (1903-1904). Teodoro Hernandez married Eutimia Sanchez Villagómez and the couple had at least three children: Adriana (Hernandez) Lucearo (1928-2002), Guadalupe (Hernandez) Esquer (1930-2000), and Anastacio (1931-1980). The Hernandez family emigrated to the United States between 1907 and 1919 and settled in Miami, Arizona.

Adriana Hernandez died in San Julián, Jalisco, Mexico on February 23, 1907 and Atanacio Hernandez married Maria Magdalena Carpio (1896-1941). The couple had seven children: Ignacio (1919-1933), Victoria (Hernandez) Rojas (1921-2008), José Manuel (1924-2009), Concepcion (Hernandez) Rojas (1926-2006), Miguel (1929-), José Guadalupe (1931-), and Jean Maria (1938-). Atanacio Hernandez died of kidney disease in Phoenix, Arizona on December 26, 1942.
