Luis H. Cordova Papers

The Luis H. Cordova Papers, 1936-1990, contain news clippings, certificates, club records, and printed matter detailing the history of the Cordova family. The collection is divided into two series; Family Documents and Newspaper Articles.

Series I: Family Documents contains material ranging from the marriage certificate of Luis and Carmen Aguirre to the funeral book containing the signatures of his wife, children, and grandchildren. Other documents relate to his life achievements, including certificates and various papers and cards on Cordova's nomination to the Phoenix City Council. Luis Cordova was also founder of the Latin American Club, a political group that addressed the needs of Mexican Americans in Arizona. Also included in these documents are obituaries for Luis Cordova, a tribute to his family, and his wife's obituary.

Series II: Newspaper Articles consists of newspaper articles. A series of articles describe the achievements of his son, Valdemar Cordova, and his appointment as the first Mexican American U.S. District Court judge. These articles detail his appointment to the court, a description of his first case, several programs from ceremonies in his honor, and his obituary. There is also an editorial by Luis Cordova and Pedro G. de la Lama, published in 1936 in El Fronterizo, protesting the segregation of Mexican American children at a picnic in Eastlake Park in Phoenix.
