Arizona Association of Chicanos for Higher Education Papers
Scope and Content Note
The AACHE papers are composed of minutes of committee meetings held throughout the state of Arizona, financial reports, newsletters, membership records and correspondence. Also included are copies of the association's constitution and by laws and a number of files containing notes, reports and essays written by members attending various bilingual education conferences and symposiums sponsored by the association. Although the collection runs from 1983-1989, the bulk of the material concerns the period from 1984-1987.
The Executive Committee Meetings files in this collection contain minutes and other miscellaneous documents regarding proceedings of meetings held throughout Arizona. Correspondence included in this collection consists of letters from the President of AACHE to various committee members regarding fund raising, meetings and other association activities.
Miscellaneous Papers include essays and notes by a number of AACHE members on various programs. Alfredo De Los Santos Notes concern the formation of AACHE and development of a master plan for Chicano higher education. A Directory of Non Profit Hispanic Organizations lists names, addresses, officers and missions of institutions within Arizona. The Exchange Program with Mexico file contains a draft proposal for a cultural academic exchange program between the Maricopa Community College District and an unidentified Mexican institution. The Hispanic Faculty Demographics file consists of statistics on Hispanic faculty members and academic professionals at institutions within the Maricopa Community College District. The AACHE Evaluation and Survey file includes minority population, fluency (English) and enrollment statistics for Arizona community colleges, universities and graduate programs. This file also contains a paper by Macario Saldate IV entitled The Current Context For Action

This collection consists of two boxes.
Provenance
The bulk of the Arizona Association of Chicanos for Higher Education (AACHE) Papers were given to the Chicano Research Collection by Alfredo De Los Santos in 1985 (ACC# 85 107). Additional materials were donated to the collection by Geneva Duarte, an officer of the association, in 1989 (ACC# 89 217).
Separated Materials
Removed from the AACHE Papers were six videotapes which document the proceedings of the President's Symposium on Chicanos and Higher Education in Arizona held in 1983 (#VA 8), and the proceedings of an executive committee meeting held in 1987 (#VA 9).
