Scope and Content Note
The Cordelia Chávez Candelaria Papers contain material documenting her career as an author, educator, scholar, and administrator. Series I includes correspondence, administrative files, and course material from the University of Colorado, Boulder (CU-Boulder) and Arizona State University (ASU). This series also houses personal research and correspondence collected for a book she co-edited called Encyclopedia of Latino Popular Culture in the United States. Series II documents Candelaria's involvement with different organizations throughout her career. Series III contains subject files originally collected and organized by Candelaria; this order has been retained. Series IV contains artifacts, photographs, and media.

Access Restrictions
The Department of Archives and Special Collections has restricted access to Box 3, 13, 16-18, and 30-33 in order to protect the privacy of students and faculty. Researchers wishing to access these materials are required to contact the Curator of the Chicano/a Research Collection.
To view this collection, make an appointment at least five business days prior to your visit by contacting Ask an Archivist or calling (480) 965-4932. Appointments in the Wurzburger Reading Room at Hayden Library (rm. 138) on the Tempe campus are available Monday through Friday. Check the ASU Library Hours page for current availability.
