Scope and Content Note
Series I: Research Papers, Reports, Studies and Surveys houses materials documenting cities, counties, and the state in addition to Data-Line generated surveys, educational surveys from local school districts, and other general files in alphabetical order by title or subject. Series II: Academic documents classes taught or attended by Merrill. Series III: Miscellaneous includes certificates, journal articles written and publications produced by Merrill, and press releases. Series IV: Publications by Others houses publications that Merrill used in support of his research (arranged by title).

Biographical Note
Bruce Dalton Merrill, a native of Arizona and a veteran of service in the Navy, earned a Ph.D. from the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor in 1970. During his tenure at ASU (1970–2007), he taught for the Department of Political Science, the Center for Public Affairs, the Department of Communication, and the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication. He also founded the ASU Survey Research Center and served as Director of the Center for Urban Studies. Merrill retired in 2007 with emeritus status.
Merrill received a multitude of grants and honors throughout his career and published articles, books, reports, and papers. He was also President of Merrill Research International, a behavioral research firm for which he traveled throughout the country and took polls for groups and individuals, including politicians. During the Nixon administration Merrill was appointed to the Committee for Population Statistics of the U.S. Census Bureau.

Abstract
The Bruce Merrill Papers consist primarily of market research materials that Merrill created and collected during his time as a Professor at Arizona State University and as Director of the Survey Research Center.

This collection consists of sixteen boxes divided into four series:
