Scope and Content Note

This collection consists primarily of research files, notes, and indicies used to write A Bibliography on Meteorites. This volume was edited by Harrison Brown with associate editors Gunnar Kullerud and Walter Nichiporuk for the University of Chicago Press in 1953. Also included are two folders documenting a fire in Arizona State University's Chemistry Department that killed a student. Biographical Note

Carleton Bryant Moore was born to Eldridge Carleton and Mabel Florence (Drake) Moore on September 1, 1932. He married Jane Elizabeth Strouse on July 25, 1959 and the couple had two children, Barbara Jeanne and Robert Carleton. Carleton Moore married his second wife, Diane Beets, on April 23, 2000.

Moore earned his B.S. (1954) and DSc (1977) from Alfred University and his Ph.D. (1960) from the California Institute of Technology. He taught at Wesleyan University (1959-1961) before coming to Arizona State University as the founding Director of the Center for Meteorite Studies. In addition to his work at ASU, Moore worked with a number of the Apollo missions and at the NASA Ames Research Center. He also wrote several books, including Cosmic Debris (1969), Principles of Geochemistry (1982), and Grundzügeder Geochemie (1985) and edited Researches on Meteorites (1961).
