Scope and Content Note
This collection houses correspondence, publications, memoranda, manuals, notes, minutes, reports, agendas, award nominations and notices, capital project requests, spreadsheets, programs, and other materials documenting the College of Extended Education at Arizona State University. The bulk of this material was created during Bette F. DeGraw's tenure as Dean. Among the subjects described are distance learning, department reorganization, minority students, enrollment, Phoenix metropolitan communities, the Arizona Board of Regents, and department finance and operations. This collection has not been processed in full and can be viewed only by appointment. Contact Archives and Special Collections for more information.

Biographical Note
Bette Feather DeGraw was born to Augustus Scott and Margaret Garney (Moorhead) Feather in Philadelphia on August 4, 1946. She married Richard DeGraw on August 19, 1967 (divorced June 1985). DeGraw earned her B.A. from Thiel College in 1968, her M.S.W. from Rutgers College in 1972, and her D.P.A. from Arizona State University in 1990. She began her career in the Arizona State Senate, serving as a Research Analyst in the office of the Majority Leader (1973-1974) and as Special Assistant to the Majority Leader (1975-1978). She joined the Arizona Department of Economic Security in 1979, where she worked as Assistant Director of Planning and Policy Development (1979-1983) and as Deputy Director (1983-1986). DeGraw also served briefly as Executive Assistant to the Governor (1988).
DeGraw came to Arizona State University in 1972, where she served as an Instructor in Social Work (1972-1975). She went on to work as Director of the Title XX Manpower Development Project (1978), as Director of the College of Extended Education Downtown Center (1986-1991), and as Co-Director and Co-Principal Investigator of Project Prime (1989-1991) before becoming Dean of the College of Extended Education in 1991. DeGraw also continued to teach and accepted a position as Associate Professor in the School of Public Affairs in 1993. She is currently Dean Emerita of the College of Continuing Education.
