Scenes from Outside Gammage Auditorium, Fence View, 2004 October 13
Scope and Content Note
The U.S. Presidential Debate Photograph Collection consists of digital images and hardcopy prints documenting temporary facilities and events associated with the debate between US Presidential candidates George W. Bush and John Kerry held at Arizona State University on October 13, 2004. The bulk of the photographs made by University Archivist Rob Spindler and Librarian Claude Potts depict daytime outdoor campus scenes near the Memorial Union, Hayden Library and Gammage Auditorium. The collection does not include photos of the actual debate or the interior of Gammage Auditorium, the site of the debate held that evening.
Typical photos in this collection depict students marching with political signage, the CNN and MSNBC broadcast stages built outside the Memorial Union and Hayden Library, and security preparations around the exterior of Gammage Auditorium. Photos of the broadcast stages depict CNN correspondent Judy Woodruff, Congressman J.D. Hayworth, and Joe Lockhart, senior advisor to the Kerry campaign.
The U.S. Presidential Debate Photograph Collection is arranged alphanumerically by assigned call numbers.
