Biographical Note

Earl R. Mesnier was born to Theophile Charles and Nellie (Gray) Mesnier in St. Louis, Missouri on October 24, 1907. Although he worked as a postal clerk, Mesnier was a serious collector of Shaviana (material by and about playwright, critic, and essayist George Bernard Shaw) and at one time co-owned the Black Girl Collection of letters, drawings, sketches, and John Farleigh prints for Shaw's book Adventures of the Black Girl in Her Search for God (1953). Earl Mesnier died in St. Louis, Missouri of cancer on December 29, 1960.
