Scope and Content Note

The Eduard Jan A. Tenbrinck Collection contains correspondence, minutes, legal briefs, securities certificates, by-laws, reports, maps, and news clippings dating from 1903 to 1966. They document the operations and successive corporate consolidations of copper mining enterprises in Nevada and in the neighboring districts of surrounding states.

Series I: Early Mining Companies contains correspondence, minutes, securities certificates, by-laws, and reports dating from 1903 to 1952. These documents record the results of operations of several small firms that purchased or merged with each other until 1932. By that time, all of them had been acquired by the Consolidated Coppermines Corporation. This series is divided into four subseries: Sub-Series A: Giroux Consolidated Mines Company, Sub-Series B: Butte and Ely Copper Company, Sub-Series C: Boston and Ely Copper Company, and Sub-Series D: Miscellaneous Companies.

Series II: Consolidated Coppermines Corporation houses correspondence, minutes, reports, maps, and news clippings showing the operations, acquisitions, and disposition of that company between 1907 and 1961.

Series III: Kennecott Copper Corporation contains correspondence and reports addressing the organization's purchase of Consolidated Coppermines Corporation's producing assets between 1956 and 1958.

Biographical Note

Eduard Johan Alicohen was born on June 10, 1907 in Nijmegen, Netherlands. He emigrated to the United States, where he adopted the surname Tenbrinck, in 1931. He settled in New York City and worked as a public accountant, in which capacity he apparently contracted with a number of mining firms operating in the western United States. Tenbrinck married Margaret Dorothy Schaffner (1911-1998) on November 4, 1933 and the couple had two daughters, Jean Dorothy (Tenbrinck) Daubenas (1940-) and Elizabeth (Tenbrinck) Dawsari (1944-). Eduard and Margaret Tenbrinck settled in Arizona in 1972, where Eduard Tenbrinck died on October 8, 1999.

Provenance

The Eduard Jan A. Tenbrinck Collection was received from Elizabeth Al-Hazzam in 1972 (ACC# 1972-00080).
