Scope and Content Note

The Martin C. Flohr Collection consists primarily of correspondence, maps, newsclippings, manuscripts, transcripts, and printed matter documenting the life of mountain man Bill Williams. Although the material dates from 1894 to 1964, the bulk of the collection is composed of Flohr's research materials on Williams produced from 1961 to 1964.

Biographical Note

Physician and amateur historian Martin Carroll Flohr was born in Washington, D.C. in 1904. He married Laura B. Beasley on March 9, 1927 and went on to graduate from George Washington Medical School and to complete his residency at St. Joseph's Hospital in Phoenix. From 1938 to 1953, Flohr maintained a practice in the Tolleson area. He later moved to Williams, Arizona.

Flohr was active in civic affairs and was a member of the Lions and Rotary Clubs and the El Zaribah Temple in Phoenix. He was also a former director of the Maricopa County Clinic and past president of the Thunderbird Model Railroad Club, the Williams/Grand Canyon Chamber of Commerce, and the Bill Williams Mountain Men. Martin Flohr died in Williams on February 12, 1978.
