Scope and Content Note

This collection consists primarily of Democratic Party of Arizona newsletters, mailings, and candidates' campaign literature dating from 1976 and 1980. Also included are news releases, campaign literature, schedules, and correspondence regarding invitations to speak documenting Wade Church's unsuccessful 1976 Senate campaign, which Richard Dillon headed.

Biographical Note

Richard William Dillon was born to Richard William and Mary Viola (Peoples) Dillon in Dyersburg, Tennessee on November 12, 1945. He spent his early childhood in Japan, where his father, a Master Sergeant in the Air Force, was stationed after World War II. Dillon graduated from Tempe High in 1963 and went on to earn a degree in history from Arizona State University. He was radicalized in the 1960s and served as head of Students for a Democratic Society, helped to organize laundry workers at ASU, organized for Vietnam Summer, supported the United Farm Workers Union, and lived in Haight-Ashbury at the height of the counter-culture movement. He later founded Four Peaks Press and published two books, Arizona's Amazing Towns and Western Quotations. Richard W. Dillon died on June 21, 2008 in Tempe and was survived by his three daughters, Hope, Sage and Nora, two brothers, and three grandchildren.
