Scope and Content Note
The Felix Castro Collection houses correspondence, genealogical information, a diary, a family bible, and other family documents and papers. The majority of the collection consists of genealogical information documenting the Marsters family of Ohio, Indiana, Idaho, and Kansas.
The Marsters Family Papers are composed of genealogical notes and charts, a family Bible, and other family documents. The Saul and Sarah Marsters Papers include documentation of Saul's enrollment and discharge from the 22nd Regiment of Indiana Volunteers (1864-1885), the Marsters' marriage certificate, documentation of Sarah's efforts to secure a pension for Saul's military service, and an Anti-Nuptial Agreement
between Sarah and John L. Evinger. The Marsters Family Genealogy contains genealogical charts, typescript copies of Stephen Marsters' (1794-1874) diary, Elias M. Marsters' (1822-) autobiography, and correspondence from other family members. Elias Marsters' autobiography contains informative descriptions of his work as a Methodist preacher in Ohio and Indiana.
The Castro Family Papers include Felix Castro's diary and other documents showing the Castro family. Castro's diary lists names and addresses of friends at home and fellow soldiers and describes Castro's training with Provisional Hospital C at Camp Fremont and at Camp Lee, Virginia. The Miscellaneous Papers include a number of unidentified letters and an undated memorial to Mrs. Henry J. Reemtsma and her work in the hospital at Fort Defiance.

Biographical Note
Saul Junden Van Guilder Marsters (1831-1903) was born to Stephen J. and Malinda Baldwin (Martin) Marsters. He served with the 22nd Indiana Volunteers during the Civil War. Marsters was married twice: first to Nancy Ann Clark (1831-1884) on August 4, 1850 and second to Sarah Josephine Latta Davis (1852-1939) on May 27, 1886. He had seven children with his first wife and four with his second: Hezekiah S. (1851-1911), Martha Jane (Marsters) Lennox (1853-1876), Eleanor B. (1856-1863), Elias (1860-1941), Emma Belle (Marsters) Pearson (1862-1960), Alice Willetta (Marsters) Latta (1870-1945), Olive (1872-1879), Hazel B. (1887-1889), Ethel May (Marsters) Lansing Castro (1889-1976), Saul Jr. (1891-1897), and Josephine (Marsters) Page (1894-1958). Ethel May Marsters married twice, first to Ivan C. Lansing and then to Felix Clarence Castro (1896-1984). She had one son with her first husband, Ivan C. Jr. (1915-1973).
Prior to her marriage to Saul Marsters, Sarah Latta was married to Hiram T. Davis (1850-1907). She had four children with her first husband: Minnie (Davis) Thurston (1875-1953), Hiram (1877-), Charles E. (1881–1973), and Schuyler Anson Davis (1884–1955). After Saul Marsters's death, she married John Laban Evinger (1840-1917).
