Biographical Note

Roy Flewen Kelley was born to James and Etta Kelley in Newton, Illinois on March 17, 1882. In 1914, he opened a photography studio in Miami, Arizona after having documented the Miami-Globe area for several years. Several copper companies commissioned him to document the various stages of mining and he, along with his employees A. J. and W. T. Mullarky, recorded the transformation of the copper industry from small tunnel and shaft operations to more developed open pit mining. Taken as a whole, their body of work shows the development of Miami and Globe and the growth that resulted from the mining industry. Kelley married Mary E. Mullarky (1881-1957), sister of A. J. and W. T. Mullarky, and died in Miami, Arizona on March 30, 1933.
