Scope and Content Note
The Charles H. Woolf Collection consists of correspondence, business records, and financial records produced primarily by Woolf's father, Charles C. Woolf. Although the collection extends from 1875 to 1961, the bulk of the material documents the activities of the Phoenix Title and Abstract Company, the Tempe Water Development Company, the Salt River Valley Water Users Association, and the Tempe-Mesa Produce Company from 1890 to 1925.

Biographical Note
Charles Curtis Woolf was born to James Wiley Woolf (1847-1916) and Mary Ann (McConnell) Woolf (1848-1935) in Kentucky on March 15, 1871. He was the oldest of nine children (one of whom died young) including Ida Florence (Woolf) O'Connor (1873-1962), John Wiley (1875-1937), William Henry (1877-1964), James Oscar (1879-1961), Robert Arthur (1881-1965), Mabel A. (Woolf) Hallsted (1887-1977), and Irene (Woolf) Caruthers (1889-1970). Charles Woolf was a member of the seventh graduating class of the Tempe Normal School in 1893 and received his law degree from the University of Colorado in 1896. He returned to Phoenix and opened a law office in Tempe that he maintained until his retirement in 1947. Woolf was a past president of the Tempe Normal School Alumni Association and the Tempe National Bank. He was also active in fraternal organizations including the Tempe Masonic Lodge #15 and the Scottish Rite. Charles Woolf died in Phoenix of melanoma on January 29, 1962.
Charles C. Woolf married Ruby M. Tucker (1879-1960) and the couple had two children, Charles Harold (1905-1996) and Dorothy (Woolf) Clapp (1909-1997).
