Scope and Content Note

The majority of the images in this collection depict the Gray family and their life at 2621 East Pinchot Avenue in the Phoenix Homesteads neighborhood. Numerous photographs show the interior and exterior of the house itself and the three Gray children. Arlene Gray is often pictured with dolls and pets, at parties, and in her playhouse. Pansy Gray photographed the majority of the images; Roy Gray became a professional photographer as an adult and took some of the photographs as well.

Biographical Note

Louis Monroe Gray (1904-1988) was born in Oklahoma. He married Pansy K. Allen (1906-1987), daughter of Alvah K. (1875-1947) and Lena (Geer) Allen. The couple had at least three children, Paul Allen (1928-1964), Roy Marvin (1930-2002), and Arlene (1939-). Arlene Gray married Charles Edmond Whitlatch, son of Robert Morrow and Annie Laura (Coffman) Whitlatch. Charles Whitlatch was one of at least three children, including Robert James (1931-) and Marjorie Ann (1933-). Charles and Arlene (Gray) Whitlatch were longtime residents of the Phoenix Homesteads neighborhood, living in the house that she grew up in.
