Biographical Note
Prominent inventor, engineer, and architect Charles Clark Tillotson was born to Byron and Margaret (Enyart) Tillotson in Olathe, Kansas on June 5, 1880. He relocated to Arizona, where he became an engineer for the City of Phoenix and was involved in the planning and construction of the Marble Canyon and Boulder Dams. Tillotson was a tireless advocate for Arizona's rights to Colorado River water and became president of the Colorado Verde Association upon his retirement as an engineer. In this position, he fought for completion of the Colorado Verde Project, the aim of which was to use Colorado River water for power generation and to make 4 million acres of land in southwest Arizona arable. Tillotson died in Phoenix on October 31, 1957.
The Colorado Verde Association was designed to promote the development of a comprehensive project to achieve the fullest and most economical use of all available water from the Colorado River for irrigation and power for the greatest possible benefit to the State of Arizona.
