Biographical Note

George Thomas Renner was born to George Thomas and Mildred Renner in Kansas in 1900. He earned his B.A. from Cornell College of Iowa (1922) and his M.A. (1924) and Ph.D. (1927) from Columbia University. Cornell College awarded him an additional honorary doctoral degree in 1943. George Renner married Mayme Pratt and the couple had one son, George Thomas Renner III.

During his career, Renner taught in geography departments at Columbia University, the University of Washington, and Stanford University. He also wrote numerous articles and helped to edit the Journal of Geography. Renner died suddenly on October 14, 1955 at the age of 55.

Arrangement

This collection consists of seven boxes divided into two series:

  1. Series I: Accession #1997-01880
  2. Series II: Accession #1998-01920

George Renner III donated these materials to the Arizona Collection in 1997 and 1998.
