Scope and Content Note

This collection houses eight photographs and one artist's rendering of the Valley National Bank building and bank employees taken during the 1960s. The building, located at Apache Boulevard and Rural Road in Tempe, is now part of the Arizona State University campus.

Biographical Note

James Gail Gardner was born to Gail Irwin and Delia Henrietta (Gist) Gardner in Prescott, Arizona on June 15, 1930. He had one younger sister, Cynthia Jean (Gardner) Steiger (1934-). Gardner graduated from Dartmouth College in 1952 and returned to Arizona where he worked for the Valley National Bank. He began his career as the Assistant Manager of the Prescott Branch and worked in Gila Bend before becoming Manager of the Tempe branch in the 1960s.
