Scope and Content Notes

This collection consists of quizzes, flyers, and other informational materials regarding water as a natural resource. Also included are lists of Arizona and United States Congress members, a guide to Maricopa County’s propositions from 1986, and a study done on the Shea Boulevard/Scottsdale Road area.

Historical Note

Eleanor Coup was born in Chicago, Illinois in 1931 and attended Spalding High School in Chicago and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. In 1953 she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts and attended graduate school at Columbia University, studying sociology. While living in Chicago, she volunteered with the League of Women Voters’ suburban interleague committee, “The Drips”, which was focused on education and environmental conservation. After moving to Phoenix, Arizona in the late 1970s, Eleanor continued her advocacy and worked with the League of Women Voters in Arizona. She was an active member and leader of the Modern Studies Group and participated in the group Polio Echo, Inc. which assisted polio survivors in the Phoenix area.
