Series VI: Media
Scope and Content Note
This series is exceptionally dense, potentially rich, and represents approximately one third of the entire collection based on total box number. It is arranged in ten sub-series: Speeches, Statements, Remarks; Newsclippings; Publications; Scrapbooks; Political Cartoons; Photographs; Film; Video; Audio; and Microfilm. Some items are housed in map and media drawers rather than in boxes.
Speeches, Statements, Remarks: Arranged by congressional session and chronologically within. Speeches have been aggregated from legislative and staff files, personal materials, press releases, publications, brochures, and other sources. Note that the print version of speeches, statements, remarks contains many gaps. Speech writers represented here include but are not limited to Karl Hess, Tony Smith, Earl Eisenhower, Lee Edwards, and Terry Emerson. Campaign speeches may also be found in Senate Campaigns and the 1964 Presidential Campaign. Where the speech titles are known, they appear in quotes. See also Congressional Record Excerpts. More speeches are captured in 700+ audio reels and cassettes. In May, 2011, forty additional new speeches and press releases (1969-1972) were discovered. These were added to the end of the Speeches subseries, Box 570, folders 45-85.
News Clippings: Many from a professional news clipping service; some donated by family and friends. See also Scrapbooks.
Publications: Articles from magazines, journals, and special editions related to Goldwater or topics that reflect his interests.

Processing Note
Funding from the Arizona State Legislature allowed for selective digitization of certain audio-visual material, fragile news clipping scrapbooks, political cartoons, and microfilm. It has been weeded of duplicates, deteriorating loose clippings, blank and non-functioning tapes, and material unrelated to Senator Goldwater's public service and personal life.
