Scope and Content Note
The William J. LoPiano Papers consist of correspondence, printed matter, minutes, and agendas dating from 1963 to 1978. The bulk of the collection houses Tempe Town Council meeting agendas and minutes dating from 1966 to 1978. The collection has been divided into four series.
Series I: City of Tempe contains subject files documenting a number of municipal offices, including the Planning Department, the Police Department, and the Public Works Department between 1963 and 1978. Series II: Fraternal and Civic Organizations/Private Business and Industry dates from 1965 to 1978 and documents churches, citizen's groups, mass transit, baseball, and other private businesses and industries. Series III: County/State/Federal Organizations and Programs dates from 1967 to 1978 and houses materials showing historic preservation issues, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, the Maricopa Association of Governments, and water issues. Series IV: Tempe City Council consists primarily of agendas and the minutes of the council dating from 1963 to 1978 arranged in reverse chronological order. Also included are agendas and the minutes of the Tempe Board of Adjustment, the Planning and Zoning Commission, and the Citizens' Housing Code Study Committee.
