The Maureen Murphy Papers contain correspondence, memoranda, notes, minutes, speeches, press releases, financial records, printed matter, and audio recordings describing a period in the career of a women's rights activist. The materials range in date from 1776 to 1988, but the bulk of the collection dates from 1973 to 1985.

Series I: League of Women Voters contains correspondence, minutes, agendas, rosters, press releases, financial records, and printed matter dating from 1975 through 1981. It documents organizational business and campaigning in support of the proposed Equal Rights Amendment to the United States Constitution.

Series II: Women's Political Caucus includes correspondence, notes, minutes, rosters, newsletters, and bylaws showing the organizational business that occurred between 1977 and 1987.

Series III: Equal Rights Amendment houses correspondence, memoranda, notes, minutes, speeches, press releases, financial records, printed matter, and subject files documenting the efforts of Maureen Murphy and her colleagues to win ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment. It dates from 1776 to 1983, with the bulk of the material falling between 1971 and 1981. Box 1, Folders 16-18 and Box 2, Folders 1-8 contain materials showing the Arizona Coalition for the Equal Rights Amendment.

Series IV: Legislex Associates (an enterprise that reported Congressional voting results to subscribers) includes correspondence, memoranda, newsletters, financial materials, reports, handbooks, and printed matter recording their business history and reporting methods. These materials date from 1978 to 1982. Box 7, Folders 2, 5 and 6 house marketing and usage manuals; Box 7, Folder 8 and Box 8, Folder 1 contain a quantity of their reports.

Series V: Miscellaneous Subjects contains correspondence, notes, minutes, a roster, articles, reports, newsletters, news clippings, printed matter, and subject files discussing various facets of the women's rights movement. These materials date from 1972 to 1976.

Series VI: Audio Recordings consists primarily of songs advocating the ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment.
