The Margaret Hance Photograph Collection contains over 1400 loose photographs of various sizes in addition to several photo albums. Although most of the photographs date to the years Hance served as the mayor of Phoenix (1976-1984), some of the collection also represents the years she served as a presidential campaign manager to Ronald Reagan and George Bush. This collection was received in four boxes and has been processed as follows.

Boxes 1 through 3 contain miscellaneous photographs that focus on Phoenix City Council events and Mayor Hance. These photographs have been arranged and foldered according to event when possible. Photographs of unidentifiable events were grouped and described according to the scene (ie. signing proclamations) when similar images existed. All other photographs have been foldered in groups of approximately ten and identified as miscellaneous. Some of these photographs are dated, but dates are not listed in the finding guide, as they do not pertain to the arrangement.

Box 4 contains Hance's photo album from the Phoenix City Council delegation to Taiwan. The pages of this album have been cut from its binding, labeled, and foldered separately.

The photographs found in boxes 5 through 8 were originally part of the Margaret Hance Papers and are cross referenced with the manuscript collection. These photographs have been arranged and foldered according to their cross reference folder, which is noted in the finding guide. If a photograph relates to a specific document, the name of the manuscript appears in the folder description. Photographs that do not relate to documents are described by event when possible or labeled as miscellaneous.

Box 9 contains a photo album given to Mayor Hance by General Dynamics Electric Boat Division to commemorate the launching of the USS Phoenix.

Box 10 is an oversized box containing Mayor Hance's photo album from the Phoenix City Council delegation to Japan. In addition, this box contains various oversized photographs, many of which have previously been matted or framed. Folders are described according to the event photographed when possible.
