Lein Correspondence, 1948
Scope and Content Note
The Hugh and Berta Antrim Papers house yearbooks, maps, publications, correspondence, images, contracts, scrapbooks, and other materials primarily documenting Phoenix Union Station and its operation between 1923 and 1968. Other materials show the Shackelford and Antrim families and Hugh and Berta Antrim’s attendance at Phoenix Union High School and Phoenix College and their work on class reunions for both schools.
Series I: Phoenix Union High School and Phoenix College includes annotated yearbooks, maps, class reunion materials, and publications documenting Phoenix Union High School and Phoenix Junior College. A ticket to the 1933 Arizona State Legislature Benefit Ball is also present.
Series II: Phoenix Union Station houses correspondence, blueprints, images, contracts, financial records, and other materials documenting the operation of Phoenix Union Station (sometimes called Phoenix Union Terminal Station). These materials were most likely collected by Hugh Antrim while working for the Southern Pacific Railroad, which operated the station. The majority of the materials date from 1948 to 1968, but some, including a contract and correspondence with the Central Arizona Light and Power Company, agreements governing the station’s operation, correspondence with Pacific Coin Lock, and contracts for time signal service, document the station’s construction in 1923.
Series III: Scrapbooks contains two scrapbooks most likely created by Berta Antrim. They include photographs, correspondence, programs, newspaper clippings, and other materials documenting such subjects as Shackelford and Antrim family trips; class reunions; Hugh and Berta Antrim’s wedding; Colorado Women’s College; racing at Arizona Downs and Centennial Race Track; historical architecture in Phoenix; and Orme Ranch and school. Items found loose in the scrapbooks have been removed to appropriate housing and listed independently in the container list.
