Scope and Content Note

From the collection:

This collection houses Evangeline TerHeun's incoming and outgoing political correspondence. It reflects both local and national issues, including Senator John Bricker's proposed constitutional amendment concerning United States treaties, the perceived Communist threat in the United States, and Barry Goldwater's 1964 presidential campaign.

Of particular note is the documentation of TerHeun's grassroots effort to organize Arizona Republican Party women during the 1952 Presidential Campaign and race relations in Arizona during the 1964 Presidential Campaign. Correspondents include Senator John W. Bricker, Senator Paul Fannin, Senator Barry Goldwater, J. Edgar Hoover, Denison Kitchel, Clarence Manion, Senator Joseph McCarthy, Senator Pat McCarran, and Representative John J. Rhodes.
