Phoenix Buildings: Schools, 1900-1925

 File — Box: 8, Folder: 6

Scope and Content Note

From the collection:

This collection houses photographs showing variety of subjects pertaining to Arizona, including views of desert flora and fauna, landscapes, military, mining, Native Americans, agriculture, buildings, street scenes, transportation, and people and places. Of particular interest is a rare photograph album, Appendix B: Photographs, located in box 12/OV. This album was a supplement to the Report Based on Reconnaissance Investigation of Arizona Land Irrigable From the Colorado River. In 1922, the State Water Commissioner created the Arizona Engineering Commission to survey the state of Arizona and determine how much of the land could be irrigated by the Colorado River. The photographs and accompanying captions in the album are referred to in this report. This land survey was the precursor to the creation of the Arizona Colorado River Commission and the many legal battles that followed over the state's ownership of water rights. It is unknown how many of these albums were created.
