Bailey, Philip A., 1885-1970

The Philip A. Bailey Papers contain correspondence, notebooks, biographical and genealogical material, manuscript and typescript compositions, and clippings files. Although the collection ranges from 1842 to 1965, the bulk of the material covers Bailey's research and writing on lost mines in Arizona and California from 1906 to 1948.

This collection consists primarily of snapshots and studio portraits depicting the Bailey and Pettit families. Also included are images showing stagecoach stations in California; views of Florida, including the Everglades, Miami, and Palm Beach; the Bailey home at 3348 Dumas Street, San Diego, California; and views of England, including houses, street scenes, landscapes, and castles, taken by Winifred Lakin of Nottingham, England and sent to Philip Bailey as part of a photograph exchange.
